Nearly two months of 2012 have gone already in case you haven’t noticed, and I have a big milestone birthday coming up soon. Oh well never mind, despite me getting on people still think I’m a puppy sometimes, all because I’m vertically challenged.

Little do they know what a big dog I am inside! Yeah, its not the size of the dog in the fight that counts, it’s the size of the fight in the dog that does, and I got plenty of that, believe me! The Foxy and the Corgi up the road know all about that; every time I go past their houses I let them know what I think of them, and although they pretend to be tough and always show me heir teeth they really are just scaredy cats inside.

However, having just said that I must admit that if you are bigger than me all you can expect from me is a quick flip onto my back while pleading for mercy… I mean, I might be tough but I’m not stupid!

You probably all know that its summer here Downunder, although sadly our actual summer holidays are already behind us and we’re back at work!

But as they say a dog’s work is never done, and so it is with me too. After a short break I have had to get back to my regular duties such as property perimeter checks, cat, rodent and bird checks – all the normal tasks the humans are completely useless at. I mean, when’s the last time pretty much any human you know ever ensured there are no rats behind the fence??? Yes, I know, and thats my point exactly!

And then, as always when you’re back from a break, there is a huge backlog of pee-mails to read and reply to… So I’m very busy, but still try to ind some time to toast in the sun and relax. After all, one has to find some balance in one’s life, eh? Bark with you later!

This year has trundled past at such a high speed that it is hard to believe it is the Silly Season yet again.

Mind you, here in Christchurch we have had a year like no other, our mettle has been severely tested and I can say proudly that as a city we have come thru it all with flying colours. Not that we have seen the end of it all yet as we shook again severely a couple of times yesterday, but things are looking up.

But despite everything that has happened this year it is now Christmas so look after your humans, don’t let them eat or drink too much, and try to be disciplined and not pee on the Christmas tree!

Hello hello! My daughter Flo was taking her human for a walk the other day when a couple of Staffies ran out of a nearby house looking for a fight.

Now Flo is a stroppy young lady who is more than capable of looking after herself, so when one of them bit her she gave as good as she got. But the question begging to be asked is, what were these two mongrels doing out in the street? Don’t they have any responsibilities, such as guarding their house and yard or keeping an eye on their humans for instance…? Decent law abiding dogs such as my daughter should be able to walk their humans in any street without having to worry about being assaulted by some layabouts like that.

Besides, as she had her human to protect as well the situation could easily have turned really ugly. Thankfully it didn’t, and Flo has got well and truly over it by now of course – its just me being a neurotic mother who worries about her offspring!

Hello everyone! All is well here in the Antipodes. Well, except that I’m just heading off to the vets to get some stitches removed from my rear end.

Yes, I had the indignity of having a little cyst removed from the nether regions, and had the lampshade thingy sitting nearby, ready to be put on if needed… You know the one I mean; The Cone of Shame… Smart that I am I never licked the wound when the humans were watching so I never had to wear the dreaded thing, thank Dog for that! But I must be honest and admit that I snuck a couple of licks when nobody was watching. And who wouldn’t?

Never mind, it has healed well and the stitches will be out by the time you read this so its all good and I’m roaring to go again. Took me a couple of days to get over the op so its really good to be up to full speed again. Woof woof!!

We’ve just had the biggest annual agility event in New Zealand, and for once it was here in Christchurch. Three days of fun for us loonies to race around and jump off contacts… And, as it happened, this year Alliedog was one of the sponsors which meant, would you believe it, that I got my name and logo on a full set of ribbons!

Gee, think of all those lucky winners who got a beautiful ribbon with Alliedog blasted all over. And, if I may say so myself, fine ribbons they were, too, as you can see from the photo. As the creator of the Alliedog brand I’m naturally very proud, although the humans are trying to get most of the glory as always.

Poor wee things, I think I’ll just let them think that it was their idea, gotta let them feel good about themselves sometimes, especially since they’ve been pretty obedient recently. Woohoo!

We will dress ourselves in special Alliedog light weight raincoats in fluorescent yellow and everyone will think we are USAR dogs in legitimate business! We will be highly visible and safe in the daytime and at night, and yet stylish and elegant – and that’s obviously important, well, at least to us girls anyway.

And of course, should you happen to need a high viz vest yourself we can make one for you too as a special order, only available to our blog readers at this stage. Just contact us thru our website www.alliedog.com and Bob’s your uncle!

Well, such is life that it seems there is no end to our cat troubles at the moment. This time its not the shy young lady from next door coming in to check our menu, it is the Horrid Home Invader who is back again. Yes, you guessed it, the Peeing Puss has been visiting us again.

I can proudly say we scared at least one life out of him a few months ago, and we will do it again. In complete confidence – obviously we wouldn’t want everyone knowing about this – I can tell you that we are quietly preparing a kind of a secret ambush with volunteer terriers, who wish to remain anonymous for legal reasons, taking turns at the cat door after hours.

And if that doesn’t work there is also a last resort Plan B which involves a one way ticket to the Cats Protection League… just hope it doesn’t have to come to that… But bye for now, gotta get back to the HQ to put the final touches on our plan! See ya!

Do you ever think that the young ones are sometimes rather disrespectful? I do. I might be showing my age here but I was beaten by my very own daughter at an agility competition recently, and I’m just not used to that kind of thing.

I’m the old paw at it and she is just a novice learning the basics, but would you believe it, yes, she did better than me at a recent event! Of course I’m very happy indeed that my little girl is doing well but getting a better placing than your own mother… Well, the upside is that I decided to become more competitive, and really go for it, and have since got myself four ribbons for three placings and for one really big win, so a lesson learned thank Dog!

The humans don’t really mind who wins, if anyone, as long as they are stll having fun but I do think that my own family at the very least should remember that I’m the boss, and that there are certain privileges that go with that position. Like winning, eh!

Well, well, we woke up from a very good nights sleep to find two cats in our kitchen, not just the one we normally do. In addition to our own tabby there was an almost identical, presumably female cat there as well.

Now our Snoopy has never been particularly welcoming or hospitable towards other cats as he is well known in the neighbourhood for being a bit of a bully and a fighter, so we were naturally quite surprised he had a visitor. Is it love? Judging by Snoopy’s disinterest in her it doesn’t seem that way. Maybe she just popped in to steal his biscuits, and with him being of more advanced years perhaps he just couldn’t be bothered chasing her off.

Whatever the reason, the visitor was obviously “encouraged” by us to leave the premises immediately, which she did rather speedily once we were on the case, and as far as we know she hasn’t been back. Patting ourselves on the back!!!
